Local residents are cleaning up this morning after a significant overnight deluge left parts of the island with minor damage and roading obstructions.
The heavy rain, which began late Thursday, led to a small landslip and debris blocking Shoal Bay Road near Pigeon’s. While the road remained passable with care, the obstruction caused early morning delays for some.
In Mulberry Grove, the bridge adjacent to the school bore the brunt of the swollen creek. The safety railing on the structure was blown out by the force of the water and debris traveling downstream. The wooden railing is displaced, leaving the bridge walkway exposed.

Awana Valley is also heavily flooded, and any attempts to cross the valley would require extreme caution.
The weather event followed a formal orange heavy rain warning issued by MetService, which predicted an 18-hour window of intense downpours across the island and northern Auckland. Forecasters warned that the saturated ground could lead to rapid runoff and surface flooding in low-lying areas.
Council staff are expected to assess the bridge for repairs today. Residents who notice further slips, fallen trees, or damage to public infrastructure are encouraged to report them to the Auckland Council Service Centre by calling 09-429-0258.
Conditions are expected to settle throughout Friday afternoon ahead of the Anzac long weekend.
