Emergency services are at the scene of a severe traffic accident on Shoal Bay Road, which has forced a complete closure of the route between Gooseberry Flat and Mulberry Grove.
The collision, which occurred near 400 Shoal Bay Road, involved a motorcycle and a passenger car towing a trailer.
Local emergency services were the first to attend the scene and provide initial assistance. The serious crash investigation team has since been helicoptered to the island from Auckland.

A statement issued by New Zealand Police confirmed that the road between 400 Shoal Bay Road and Mulberry Grove will remain closed for the next 6 to 12 hours while the investigation is carried out.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) crews are stationed at both ends of the closure to manage traffic.

No vehicles will be allowed through the area. A pedestrian detour is in place for those who need to traverse the area.
The closure has impacted local supply deliveries. Due to the blocked roadway, remaining chilled and frozen goods from the barge have been placed in fridges and freezers and are available for pickup at the Mulberry Grove Store.
Hato Hone St John spokesperson Siobhan Campbell told the Barrier Times: “Hato Hone St John was notified of a motor vehicle incident on Great Barrier Island at 12:19 and responded one PRIME vehicle and one first response unit. Our crews were not required for transportation.”
