Kaitoke School Celebrates the Grand Opening of Levi’s Pump Track

The sun shone brightly over Kaitoke School last Sunday, defying the stormy week that preceded it, for the grand opening of Levi’s Pump Track. The event was a resounding success, drawing a large and enthusiastic crowd from across Great Barrier Island.

The day kicked off with live music from the talented Shaun & Z, and the lively MC Willy Park kept the energy high throughout the festivities. Matua Rodney opened the proceedings with a heartfelt Karakia, setting the tone for a truly special occasion. Levi’s family then had the honour of cutting the ribbon, officially opening the track.

Principal Leanne Eloff addressed the gathered crowd, expressing her sincere gratitude to the many sponsors who contributed to the project. “This track is bigger and better than we expected,” she remarked, emphasizing the amazing community effort that brought this dream to life. “This is just another example of what an amazing community we live in, where people rally around a cause with passion and dedication.”

Byron Scott of Trailpro, the mastermind behind the track’s design, also spoke. He acknowledged the hard work of his team and the exceptional craftsmanship of Aotea Concrete & Excavations, who made the all-concrete track possible.

After the formalities, the track came alive with action. Pro BMX rider Riley Neilson-Hall put on a dazzling display, followed by a wave of enthusiastic kids on bikes, scooters, rollerblades, and skateboards. The adults then had their turn, proving that age is no barrier to having fun on wheels.

As the sun began to set, the track remained a hub of activity, a testament to the lasting legacy Levi’s memory will have on the community. The grand opening was a day filled with love, community spirit, and a celebration of a young life taken too soon.

Eloff said the success of the Levi Golaboski Memorial Pump Track was a tribute to the generosity and support of the wider community.
