Erosion is a pressing issue across the island, with Mulberry Grove being particularly vulnerable to road inundation and damage to coastal structures. The SAP aims to protect vital infrastructure such as Shoal Bay Road, the arterial route to Tryphena wharf.

The plan outlines several potential strategies, ranging from ‘managed retreat’, allowing nature to take its course, to maintaining existing defenses, or implementing more robust measures like seawalls.

Have Your Say:

Whether you live near the coast, enjoy the beaches, or simply care about the future of our island, your feedback is valuable. Council staff say they’re eager to hear your thoughts on the proposed strategies and how they might impact communities across the Aotea.
