Welcome, Karllie Clifton, Principal of Te Kura o Okiwi
Karllie Clifton has joined Te Kura o Okiwi as its new Tumuaki/Principal. Although new to the role, Karllie has deep ties to Aotea, having worked on the island since 2011 in various capacities, including as a hiking guide and teacher. She expresses her gratitude for the warm welcome and looks forward to connecting with the Okiwi community. To get in touch, email tumuaki@okiwischool.co.nz.

Kauri Dieback Aerial Survey Underway
Over the coming weeks, a helicopter survey will be conducted on Aotea to identify kauri trees potentially affected by kauri dieback disease. The pathogen, first reported in Whangaparapara in 1974, poses a significant threat to kauri health. Surveys will focus on the Aotea Conservation Park, with permission sought from private landowners if necessary. For more information, email kauri@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz or visit kauriprotection.co.nz.
