An Aotea Contractors concrete truck went down a steep, bush-covered bank on Medlands Road between Tryphena and Medlands on Friday morning.
Police said they received reports of the single-vehicle crash at around 9.50am. One person was initially reported as seriously injured.
St John (Hato Hone) said it was notified at 09:55 and responded “one first response unit, and one helicopter to the scene.” Crews “assessed and treated one patient who was airlifted to Auckland City Hospital in a moderate condition.”
Aotea Contractors thanked the emergency crews and said they “saw our driver to safety,” and also expressed gratitude to their staff and the community for support throughout the day. The company asked the public not to approach the truck, describing it as “an unsafe and active accident scene.”
Police confirmed the road “is now clear.”
A heavy-recovery team is due on the island on Wednesday, December 10, to assess the site and develop a recovery plan. A public notice will be issued once that plan is confirmed.
