Roading, Rubbish? Residents Invited to Shape Island Priorities for Next Three Years

Great Barrier Island’s newly sworn-in local board has begun early work on its three-year plan, and residents are being asked to give feedback on what the island should prioritise.

The consultation is the first major task for the incoming board, chaired again by Izzy Fordham with Christopher Ollivier as deputy chair. Fordham, Ollivier, Neil Sanderson, Ryan Daly and Nikki Watts were formally sworn in at the Claris Conference Centre last month after the island once again recorded Auckland’s highest voter turnout at 56.2 percent.

They’re now seeking public input on what work should be prioritised for the coming term. This includes roading and infrastructure, walking tracks, upgrades to settlement areas, rubbish and recycling services, parks and reserves, and support for community projects. Residents may raise any issues they believe require attention — the consultation is open-ended.

Feedback can be submitted online, emailed to lbplans@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz, or posted to: Local Board Plan, Auckland Council, Private Bag 92300, Victoria Street West, Auckland 1142.

The local board will use this early round of submissions to shape the direction of the 2026 plan before a full draft is released next year for formal consultation.
