The Great Barrier Local Board is hosting a series of community barbecues across the island this month and next, aiming to gather resident feedback for the upcoming Local Board Plan.
The events are being run as informal “catch-ups,” allowing residents to meet with board members and discuss local issues without the need for formal appointments or submissions.
According to the Board, the goal is to hear what matters most to locals and their whānau to help shape priorities for the next few years.
While the Board notes early feedback has touched on marine protection, local playgrounds, freight costs, roads, and pest management, they are seeking a wider range of views before finalising the plan.
The engagement series covers five locations, starting in Okupu on February 28 and concluding at the Fitzroy Boat Club on March 21.
Schedule of events:
- Okupu Reserve: Saturday, 28 February, 12pm – 2pm
- Growers & Makers Market: Saturday, 7 March, 11am – 12.30pm
- Medlands Two Pines: Saturday, 14 March, 12pm – 2pm
