Final Call for Innovators: Aotea / Great Barrier Grants Deadline Approaches

Deadline Looms for Community Grants

The race is on for community groups and innovators on the island as the latest round of the Local Board’s Capital and Local Grants draws to a close in less than two weeks. With a deadline of March 8, 2024, looming, the island’s visionaries have a fleeting window to pitch projects that could shape the future of Aotea.

The initiative is designed to foster resilience, promote sustainable development and enhance environmental protection across Aotea / Great Barrier Island. The programme can provide up to $50,000 for a single project.

Previous grants have supported a variety of initiatives, including installing solar setups for community social clubs, upgrading playgrounds, and developing community recycling programs and gardens.

Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Aotea / Great Barrier Local Board Plan, available here. The grants programme seeks applications that align with specific objectives, including the preservation of the island’s identity, support for local economy, and infrastructure development.

On a case-by-case basis, projects that may not directly align with the local board plan or which are from groups not based on Aotea / Great Barrier Island but still offer significant benefits to the community, may be considered.
