The survey, coordinated by environmentalist John Bakunin, is scheduled for October 19th and 20th, 2024. In case of inclement weather, alternative dates have been set for November 2nd and 3rd.

“These surveys are essential for understanding the state of our coastal ecosystems and informing future conservation efforts,” Bakunin said. “We invite everyone to join us and contribute to this important initiative.”

A pre-survey information session will be held at St John’s church hall on October 18th at 6 pm, where participants can learn more about the survey methods and goals.

On Saturday, October 19th, volunteers will meet at the Schooner Bay boatshed at 10 am to snorkel and collect data. On Sunday, October 20th, the survey will take place at Medlands Boatshed Rock at 10 am.

A particular focus will be on the extensive Kina barrens in Medlands, with discussions on potential remediation strategies.
