Island Celebrates Spectacular Santa Parade 2024

This year’s Santa Parade on Great Barrier Island was a resounding success, filled with vibrant floats, spirited performances, and a community coming together to ring in the festive season. The parade, a staple of island holiday celebrations, featured an array of beautifully crafted floats and performances that captivated attendees.

Leading the parade was the Ngahere float, provided by GB Cartage with the support of Wayne and Jill Bloor. Ally Gibbs, the principal of Mulberry Grove School, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you for providing the truck and driver for our Ngahere float. Your unwavering support means the world to us!” The float was a standout, drawing cheers from the crowd as it made its way down the main street.

A significant highlight was the series of dance performances organized by Michelle Hartley Scott. The meticulous coordination and enthusiasm brought by Scott were pivotal in showcasing local talent. Gibbs remarked, “Your tireless efforts in organizing and managing our dance performances did not go unnoticed. We truly appreciate the time and energy you dedicated to making them shine.”

The parade also emphasized cultural heritage, with a special focus on revitalizing kapahaka across all kura on the motu. Celebrated leaders like Lyric Wii, Mikaere Morehu, Nancy Tait, and the Island School Leaders and Staff were pivotal in this cultural showcase. “Your belief in revitalizing kapahaka across all kura on the motu is inspiring. We’re thrilled to continue this meaningful journey with you in 2025,” Gibbs shared.

Parents, staff, and students from Mulberry Grove School were also heavily involved, their creativity and festive spirit breathing life into the parade. “You’re all amazing!” Gibbs applauded, acknowledging their vital role in the event’s success.
