The Claris Sports and Social Club has taken a significant leap towards sustainability with the installation of a state-of-the-art solar battery bank. Funded by a generous grant from the Local Board, the new system was installed late last month, ushering in a new era of energy use for the community hub.
Linda Rowe from the Claris Sports & Social Club couldn’t contain her enthusiasm as she commented on the recent upgrade. “Exciting news for Claris Club with the new power system being installed… A huge thanks to the Local Board for supporting our funding application. Here’s to cold beers and wine — and let’s not forget the great food we’ll be enjoying tonight!”
Izzy Fordham, the Chair of the Local Board, highlighted the broader implications of such grants, “The local board has assisted a number of our community organizations to upgrade their alternative power systems, and the funding granted to the Great Barrier Island Sports & Social Club is no exception.”
“We see this as a way of helping them to minimize their fossil fuel running costs whilst living up to what Aotea is proud of – an off-the-grid island with a focus on environmental sustainability.”
The Claris Sports and Social Club, with its new solar battery bank, is poised to continue as a vibrant center for socialization and sports, all while contributing to the island’s famed off-the-grid, eco-friendly lifestyle, Fordham added.
