Bloom with a View: Garden Tours Return for 2024

Aotea Great Barrier Island is set to flourish once again with the return of our much-loved Garden Tours.

Scheduled for Saturday, November 30, 2024, this year’s event promises to be an unforgettable adventure, showcasing unique residential gardens across the motu.

The tours offer a rare opportunity to explore a diverse array of gardens, ranging from charming cottage gardens to breathtaking coastal landscapes.

Each tour is designed to cater to different fitness levels. The Totara and Kauri tours are for the adventurous and fit, able to clamber in and out of boats, and up and down steep stairs, in the western, southern, and northern ends of the island. The Rewa and Nikau tours are designed for those seeking a more laid-back level of activity.

The event is more than just a garden tour. Participants indulge in a delectable morning tea and a charming Devonshire afternoon tea, included in the ticket price.

Russell Fransham, a previous attendee, expressed his delight: “Visiting the gardens was a treat; they are vibrant expressions of the islanders’ creativity and dedication. It’s a community event that truly welcomes everyone.”

Additionally, the tour serves as a fundraiser for the Great Barrier Island Community Health Trust, supporting essential equipment purchases for the island community.
