The Warmer Kiwi Homes program, a government initiative providing grants for insulation and efficient heaters, may be extended to Aotea if there’s enough interest from eligible island residents.

The program typically covers 80-90% of insulation costs and up to 80% of heating costs (with a $3,000 cap on heating). While currently available on the mainland, EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority) is considering a proposal to bring the program to Aotea.

Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify, your home must meet the following requirements:

  • Owner-occupied (not a rental property).
  • You hold a Community Services Card or your home is located in a low-income area as defined by Warmer Kiwi Homes. (Check your address at www.warmerkiwihomes.govt.nz)
  • For a heating grant, your home must already be insulated to Warmer Kiwi Homes standards and cannot have an existing fixed heater in a living area.
